This track is on my Rock Mix playlist and it never fails to play on shuffle. Each time it plays I find something else to love about it.

It’s the iconic Cage the Elephant sound I love. I really enjoy the back and forth bit during the chorus between the guitar and drums.

  • Games - Flycatcher

I LOVE the intro - the fade in of the repeated guitar riff is perfect. I need to learn how to play that riff.

  • Weak Hearts - Felly

Such a catchy beat. I found it a bit ago but have been listening to it a lot recently. I’m glad it’s made it back into my daily rotation.

  • In Bloom - Nirvana

I’ve been on a heavy 90s grunge kick recently and this track was on repeat.

  • Always Alright - Alabama Shakes

I love the mix of a little bit of rock and a little bit of country breaking through.

I’m not even sure what to say about this song, it’s a masterpiece and I love it way too much.

  • Just Friends - Gavin Degraw

This song reminds me of m childhood. Gavin Degraw was a staple in my house growing up. It’s very nostalgic. It’s even better now that I understand the story he shares.

  • Mr. Cadillac - Mac Saturn

This song has such a retro vibe I’ve been really into lately.

1/15/23

  • Sawteeth - Spacey Jane

I can’t stop listening to this song. I absolutely adore it. If I could play a song on a continuous loop 24 hours a day I would pick this one.

  • Halo - Cage the Elephant

    Love Love Love. Genius narrative.

  • No. 1 Party Anthem - Arctic Monkeys

Alex Turner is an incredible songwriter and creates such vivid and moving stories to share with the world. The verse starting “the look of love…” is simply amazing. My current favorite song off their album AM.

  • Shut Eyes - Walter The Producer

A fun infectious beat. Recently discovered this guy. His music reminds me of Dominic Fike but with his own unique twist.

1/8/23

  • Eddie - Red Hot Chili Peppers

I never thought one of their new releases would rival their old tracks, but I think this one might.

  • End of Beginning - Djo

I had no idea this was sung by one of the main characters on Stranger Things. Love the old techno track vibe.

  • Last Nite - The Strokes

The Strokes were in my top 5 played bands of 2022. Every week a new track will enter my weekly playlist rotation. This is this weeks obsession.

  • Close Your Eyes - The Backseat Lovers

Their latest album is a masterpiece. Love the guitar on this one.

2nd top played song of 2022. One of my absolute favorites.

4th top played song of 2022. This track has been in my top 5 for the last 4 years.

The guitar in this song is so quietly amazing. It is the next song I am going to learn how to play. I have never heard a song by him before, but now I’m a fan. I absolutely love his voice. Great song.

  • The Thrill - Wiz Khalifa, Empire of the Sun

This one is so random, but it came on a playlist I was listening to when I was getting ready for a 21st party. I’ve heard it a million times before, but just thought its such a good getting ready/party song.

  • What You Know - Two Door Cinema Club

What a legendary guitar riff, it is the pure Two Door Cinema Club Sound. The first song I ever heard by them, and I think it is still my favorite.

  • Sleeping with a Friend - Neon Trees

For some reason this is my go to road trip song. It’s such a throwback song and I think that just pumps up a trip, especially when you’re 6 hours deep into a drive. Also love the story, I think it’s super relatable to everyone.

2/13/2022

  • Sitting Up - Spacey Jane

I think I had to have played this 100 times the day after it was released. It is the lovely and iconic sound of Spacey Jane, with another captivating story told. Definitely my new favorite song by them. Love how in the bridge for “Don’t it phase you how people change? How do you work with that” it is just raw and somewhat muted vocals. I think it makes the lyrics much more powerful. Amazing song.

I mean how could you not love this song. I had my playlist on shuffle and when this came on, I just realized how legendary this song is. This song is a true testament to how talented Kings of Leon are.

  • Lost - Frank Ocean

Anything Frank Ocean releases is a masterpiece. Lost is so so so good. I had no idea the real meaning of the song for years, but recently found it out. It’s always so interesting learning the real meaning after having a completely different idea. Love this song.

  • In My Room - Frank Ocean

Another Frank Ocean song, I’ve been on a huge kick recently. The beat is so good in this one. Honestly that’s it, such a good song.

  • Taken Back - Allen Haley

I have been waiting for this songs release for way too long. It’s exceeded my expectations. It’s just so good. I actually heard it on TikTok a while ago, and after the little clip I heard I was hooked. The hard beat, Allen Haley’s voice, are unbeatable. Really reminds me of Dominic Fike. I can’t wait for his future releases, but until then this will be on repeat.

  • All Is Well - Hans Williams

Another song I have been eagerly awaiting its release. Also found from TikTok. It’s simply beautiful. I love the raspy yet smooth, quietly confident vocals. The message is especially meaningful, and I think can resonate with many - you don’t have to fight your battles alone, there are so many people around you that care, if you just let them. I love it.

  • Nightstand - Justus Bennetts

Keeping with the theme of songs I found from TikTok, this was my 5th most played song of 2021. I again waited for its release last year for so long. Then when it was released I don’t think I listened to another song for 2 days. It also gives me Dominic Fike vibes a bit. I really like the story- you can meet someone randomly and suddenly they become a huge part of your life. So cool.

  • LA Don't Look Good On U - ASTN

Final TikTok song I have been obsessed with since its release. I LOVE his voice, it’s just so soft and smooth blended with a R&B vibe. I have listened to this song too many times to count. Have been a huge fan since discovering his music.

1/30/2022

  • D is for Dangerous - Arctic Monkeys

This song is the iconic Arctic Monkeys rock, the entire album is the epitome of their legendary sound. I usually cycle through their albums each week, and this song has been my obsession this week. I love that we hear the background vocals more powerful in this song. As much as I love Alex Turner, I feel like often we don’t hear everyone else, and it was a refreshing twist. My other favorite part of this song is how the albums title,“Favourite Worst Nightmare,” is included in the the song. The lyrics go, “I think you should know you’re his favourite worst nightmare.”

  • Superposition - Daniel Caesar, John Mayer

A collaboration I didn’t know I needed. The gentle melodious vocals of Daniel Caesar, with the incredible style of John Mayer’s guitar skills, creates a masterpiece. I can’t believe I have gone so long without hearing this song.

  • Cowboys Don't Cry - Oliver Tree

Another hit song by Oliver Tree. I kept seeing the music video and his performances of this song pop up on my social media, and I finally decided to listen. Super catchy, love the entire cowboy and wild west esque language.

  • When The World Was Mine - Bad Suns

In honor of their album “Apocalypse Whenever” being released, and my review of their album published on Unclear Magazine’s website, I thought I should dedicate a spot to my favorite song off the album. It was hard to pick one, but I loved the staccato, muted guitar, and techno beats. I also loved the nostalgic tone, of the characters wanting to go back to the time where they were together.

1/23/22

  • Missed Calls - Mac Miller

This has been one of my favorite Mac Miller songs for years now, its a little softer and I think that’s what I love most about it. The story he is telling is very transparent like in all of his songs, but this one has always felt really honest and raw to me. If you’ve never listened, you need to go listen now.

  • A Night On The Floor - Inhaler

I’ve pretty much had their debut album on repeat, this is my favorite song off the album this week. They just have an electric alternative rock sound and I can’t get enough. It slightly reminds me of an Arctic Monkeys song- guitar and lyrics, which automatically makes it amazing.

  • She Wants My Money - Dominic Fike

Dominic Fike is extremely talented, and has been a long time favorite artists of mine. Love the guitar in this, and the laid back vibe. The acoustic version is a thousand times better in my opinion. The songs speaks to how when you have fame people only care about your wealth and status. Maybe playing into that is also how the song is kinda of quick, you know when she only wants his money he will drop her quick. Or maybe just short of words to say about it because he finds it a waste of time. That’s just my interpretation.

  • Swim Good - Frank Ocean

Every Frank Ocean song is a masterpiece. His lyrics, his stories and messages, his mixes and instrumentals. This was one of the first songs I heard by him, and it’s still one of my most played. Incredibly talented.

1/16/2022

  • Cheer Up Baby - Inhaler

Inhaler is definitely one of my new favorite bands. I’ve had their debut album on repeat since it came out. This track is my new obsession this week. Their modern rock sound is amazing, can’t believe this is their first album. Can’t get enough of them.

  • The Steeze - Hard Car Kids, Charlie Burg, J.Robb

Love this one. A chill song on repeat for me, laid back, R&B vibes which is one of my favorites. Love how they add in a radio call in the middle of the song - unique, engaging, and a great use of a break in the song.

  • R U Mine? - Arctic Monkeys

Arctic Monkeys are my all time favorite band. This is one of the first songs I heard by them and its still one of my absolute favorites. Been listening to it on repeat this week, like i haven’t already heard it a million times. Also the coolest song to play on guitar.

  • 5AM - Betcha

Their newest single, and it is just as amazing as the rest of their music. Been a long time fan of them, and this song was refreshing as I think it’s a little different than their previous releases. Love it.

1/9/2022

  • Watch Your Mouth - The Backseat Lovers

One of my absolute favorite songs by them. The guitar, I mean it’s amazing. One of my personal favorites to play. Safe to say I am forever obsessed and addicted to this song. Also in honor of my January cover story with them- one of my favorite conversations.

  • Thumbalina - Mac Miller

Another Mac song my brother introduced me too. I say the same thing every post about one of Mac’s song- amazing, i’m obsessed. He was so talented.

  • Head Cold - Spacey Jane

I discovered Spacey Jane last spring, and ever since I have been a huge fan. Their music is so comforting for me somehow, I don’t know every time I listen to them a small smile slips onto my face. Love them, love this song.

  • Something Good - Pacific Avenue

Randomly heard this song on a playlist I had playing in the background as I wrote an essay. Heard a bit of this song and immediately restarted it to listen fully. Super catchy, love the beat. One of my favorites.

1/2/2022

  • Ayye - Mac Miller

I heard this song for the first time when my brother played it in the car the other day. I have been hooked since, and have no idea how I have never heard it before?! Like any Mac Miller song its amazing. It may have even made it ways into my top 5 favorite by him.

  • If You're Going (I'll Go) - Anna Shoemaker

Love the funky electric tune of this one. I have never heard of Anna before this song, but I’m definitely a fan now. Sort of a different speed than what I normally listen to, but I really like it, especially the catchy chorus, it’s been stuck in my head.

  • Absinthe - The Criticals

I’m a huge fan of the Critical and an even bigger fan of their new single. Love the vibe of this song, it’s right up my alley in music taste. The music video is also so cool- love the outcast indie gas station vibe. Immediately added it to my alternative rock playlist.

  • The Bucket - Kings fo Leon

I love the beat of this one and how for the two verses its very fast paced, but the chorus slows down a bit. Love the raspy rock tone of his voice. One of my favorite bands.

12/26/2021

  • Elevator Days - The Backseat Lovers

In the spirit of the last week of the 2021, my songs of the week, will be my top four songs of the year. Elevator Days is one of my all time favorite songs by The Backseat Lovers. I discovered it vacuuming my room one day and faintly heard it over the obnoxious noise of the vacuum. I stopped vacuuming and sat down and listened to the song, and repeated that for about 10 times. The powerful instrumentals and strong vocals are unmatched. Definitely deserves to be number 1.

  • Stop The World I Wanna Get Off With You - Arctic Monkeys

A rather unknown Arctic Monkeys song as it doesn’t appear on any of their albums. Love the story in this song and it’s one of my favorite songs to play on my guitar. This one was also number 2 for 2020 and the trend will probably continue for 2022. One of the first songs I heard by them and it instantly made me fall in love with their music.

  • 7 - Catfish and the Bottlemen

I can’t even to put into words how much I love this song. It’s just one of those that gives you the best feeling. Probably in my top favorite songs of all time. Some of my favorite lyrics.

  • 100 Grandkids - Mac Miller

I was actually surprised this was the Mac Miller song that was in my top 5 songs for the year, but its a great song so i’m not complaining. All of his songs are masterpieces. Mac Miller’s music is a treasure and he will forever be one of my favorite artists.

8/8/2021

  • Go Away - Omar Apollo

A vibey R&B song that has been on repeat since I discovered it. I’m even learning it on the guitar. It has a dreamy techno vibe to it, that is unbelievably catchy. Fixating on the lyrics draws you into a contemplative state of discovering you really just want the person to stay.

  • Lots of Nothing- Spacey Jane

Spacey Jane never disappoints- this song off of their 2020 album is another testament to the accuracy of that statement. Another groovy, upbeat tune juxtaposes the meaning of the turmoil of learning to love parts of yourself you dislike.

  • Way 2 High- Souly Had

I must be on a R&B kick this week because another R&B song with a laid back groovy vibe has been playing on repeat. Again, I pay a lot of attention to the lyrics of the song and I like how this one is about an “old school crush” who he is willing to change for.

  • Rabbit- Medium Build

I heard a 5 second clip of this song on TikTok and immediately loved this guys voice. There is just something about it that seems like he sings effortlessly. The lyrics and beat are also spot on. It’s all about how you can feel crushed and I think it can be left up to your interpretation who or what has crushed you. There is also a really cool and simple music video
